Discover Regino's Italian Restaurant

Walking into Regino's Italian Restaurant at 3816 E Little Creek Rd, Norfolk, VA 23518, United States feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where the staff already knows what you’re craving before you sit down. The first time I visited, it was on a busy weeknight, and the dining room was full of families, couples, and solo diners grabbing a quick bite after work. That kind of steady crowd usually tells you more than any sign on the door ever could.

The menu leans heavily into classic Italian-American comfort food, and it does so without trying to reinvent the wheel. Think baked ziti layered with cheese that stretches exactly the way it should, chicken parmesan with a crisp exterior, and sauces that taste like they’ve been simmering all day. One of the cooks once explained to me how their marinara is built slowly, starting with crushed tomatoes, olive oil, and garlic, then finished with dried herbs rather than fresh. That method might sound old-school, but food science research from organizations like the USDA shows that slow-cooked tomato sauces actually develop deeper flavor compounds over time, which explains why their pasta dishes taste so balanced.

Pizza is where this diner-style Italian spot really shines. The dough is proofed daily, and you can taste the difference in the crust’s light chew and slightly crisp edge. During one visit, I watched a staff member stretch dough by hand rather than using a roller, a technique many Italian chefs swear by because it preserves air bubbles. The result is a pizza that doesn’t feel heavy, even after a few slices. A local regular at the next table told me this was his go-to place for what he called authentic comfort food, and judging by the empty plates around us, he wasn’t exaggerating.

Reviews from diners around Norfolk back that up. On major review platforms, consistent mentions include generous portions, reasonable prices, and friendly service. According to a 2023 consumer dining report published by the National Restaurant Association, nearly 70% of guests say they’re more likely to return to restaurants where staff interaction feels personal. That statistic makes sense here, because the servers don’t rush you and are quick to recommend favorites based on what you like. When I mentioned I preferred lighter dishes, I was pointed toward a simple pasta primavera that wasn’t even the most popular item on the menu, but it ended up being one of the best meals I’ve had there.

This location has clearly become part of the community fabric. It’s common to see takeout orders lined up near the counter, especially on weekends, which suggests locals trust it for family dinners at home. The process is smooth: orders are packed carefully, sauces are sealed well, and nothing arrives soggy. That attention to detail reflects broader best practices recommended by food safety experts, who emphasize temperature control and proper packaging to maintain quality during transport.

What also stands out is consistency. Over multiple visits spread across months, the flavors and portions stayed the same. That kind of reliability is harder to achieve than it sounds, and restaurant consultants often point out that consistent execution is one of the strongest predictors of long-term success. While no place is perfect, and the dining room can feel a bit tight during peak hours, the overall experience remains solid.

For anyone browsing menus online or scrolling through reviews trying to decide where to eat in Norfolk, this spot offers exactly what it promises: familiar Italian dishes, prepared with care, served in a relaxed setting, and priced so you don’t feel guilty coming back again. It’s the kind of restaurant that doesn’t chase trends but instead focuses on doing the basics well, which, in practice, is often the hardest thing to pull off.

  • Wife here, and I'm still raving about my incredible experience at this hidden gem! I was lucky enough to be invited by a close friend, and from the moment we walked in, I knew we were in for a treat. The food was truly phenomenal - authentic Italian cuisine that's clearly made with love. The chicken Alfredo was phenomenal! I also enjoyed the cozy, family-owned atmosphere. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place to anyone looking for a genuine Italian experience.

  • Been visiting and eating at Reginos since the 1960’s and they have never skipped a beat or disappointed. Now live in North Carolina and take the opportunity to get take out whenever in town. They NEVER disappoint! Just finished a second day of a salad, good as the first. Eating in is divine and highly recommend. Take out reheats very well just lacks the atmosphere. Will continue to patronize til I can’t … thank you Reginos for being such a large part of my life!

  • Perfect stop after Norfolk Botanical Garden – a memorable lunch at Regino’s We stopped in for lunch at Regino’s right at noon after a lovely stroll through the nearby Norfolk Botanical Garden. It was the perfect location for a quick yet meaningful visit. It was our first time dining here, and we were warmly welcomed and quickly seated by the gracious host. The restaurant is quaint and cozy, filled with classic charm—family photos, local newspaper articles, and vintage details that reflect its deep roots in the community. We were celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday, and the staff made it feel special from the start. The menu featured authentic Italian fare. After a short wait, we enjoyed fresh seafood pasta and a delicious pizza served on a tall stand. The flavors were outstanding. Warm bread with complementary butter was brought to the table, and we shared a glass of Cabernet with our meal. To top it off, the restaurant surprised us with a beautiful platter of cannolis drizzled with chocolate sauce—a perfect birthday treat and a sweet ending to a memorable meal. Regino’s is a hidden gem, and we’re already looking forward to coming back.

  • My partner and I dined in for our last night in the area. The place had a more quiet and down to earth atmosphere that was perfect compared to the other hustle & bustle places to eat closer to the beach. The service was amazing and they served great portions. Definitely a place I would recommend to anyone passing by!

  • Old school Italian place on Little Creek. When I knew I was coming to the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area to see some old Navy buddies, I Googled for great pizza places in the area, as that is my favorite food. Regino’s got on my radar and I bookmarked it. I went in today just after they opened. There were already customers at two tables. The friendly waitress greeted me and told me to find a table. I sat and she brought me a menu and I asked and received an ice water. I had already perused the menu the night before on Google Maps so I knew what I wanted. I ordered a 16” sausage, mushroom, & pepperoni. The pizza came to my table pretty darn quick and it was a thing of beauty. I just sat there admiring it for a few minutes. I was only able to eat three slices, and it was pizza perfection. Everything that I thought it would be. The cheese, crust, and ingredients were first rate. If I lived in the area, this would be a weekly stop for me. I will miss it when I fly back home to Thailand next week.

  • We love to go to Regino's for pizza. There pizza is covered with toppings and has a great taste. I usually only can eat 1 piece, because I am full. My husband and I share the house salad since they give you a big house salad. We haven't tried other dishes, but I am sure they would be good! The prices are good for the size of the portions.

  • Pretty tasty If you are looking for a family restaurant this is the place. Service was a a little slow but the food was worth the wait. The portions are generous, but they should be at the price charged. You should go with someone and split the dish. Then it’s priced perfectly.

  • Better to go here for pastas over pizza. The pizza was good, but way too expensive for the quality-price. The baked ziti is amazing!! The meal items seem to be made more for a family style eating, so take that in consideration for the pastas (price still doesn't make sense for the pizza). Staff was great.
